Biography

I am Kaiyuan Liu (柳凯元), a junior at the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering at the University of Washington. My current research interests center around Reinforcement Learning (RL) — a field I believe is the most promising path toward general-purpose learning systems. I am broadly interested in nearly all sub-directions of RL (Multi-Agent, RLHF, Robotic Learning, Games, etc), and the societal and economic impacts of related technologies. I am actively exploring potential research opportunities, including PhD and RA positions.

My research journey has spanned several areas, including Theoretical Computer Science, Machine Learning Systems, and Computational Neuroscience. While I no longer focus directly on brain-inspired computation, it has profoundly shaped my research intuition and continues to inform how I think about learning and intelligence.

I am also proud of my background in Competitive Programming, where I had the honor of representing my team in the ICPC World Finals.
